Here’s part two to the Sun and Moon I posted a few weeks ago. Hope you enjoy!
He was sitting at my table again. This was the fifth day in a row. I was starting to get annoyed. Why did he keep coming back? What about me did he like? I sat down in my usual spot and smiled up at him. He smiled back. I noticed the notebook was sitting between us. It had become our only way of communication.
He was different from other people I’ve met. He didn’t look at me strangely because I couldn’t talk. And he didn’t push me to tell him why I can’t talk. He just accepted it.
But today, Cyrus seemed distracted. He stared at his lunch, his expression blank.
I took the notebook and wrote on it. Are you okay?
He looked up at it then up at me. “I’m okay. It’s just,” he sighed. “my mom and I got into a fight again.”
I nodded and sat back a little.
“Do you get along with your parents?” He asked sitting up.
I took a deep shaky breath. I never knew my parents. I wrote.
“What happened? If you don’t mind me asking?”
I shook my head. My dad died in a car accident when I was a baby. I don’t know what happened to my mom. I live with my brother.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
I shrugged.
Cyrus looked wishfully at the table. “I never knew my dad either. My mom says he was really nice,” he shrugged. “I don’t know. You can’t really judge someone you never met.” He looked up at me, and I saw light flash through them. Slowly, I nodded and watched him more closely. Now that I was really looking at him, with the lights coming from the window, he seemed to almost… glow.
What was your father’s name?
“My mom said his name was Gatlin”
That name sounded familiar. Do you know his last name?
“Uh, Lightshade I think. Kind of an odd name right?”
I sucked in a breath and nodded. It can’t be.
I have to go. I wrote before standing. I grabbed my tray and started out of the room.
It can’t be him? Anyone but him? I had to get home. I had to talk to my brother. If Cyrus was who I thought he was, our lives were about to get a whole lot darker.
