Alright, I want to talk about books. I don’t know about most people, but I am a BIG book nerd. I love to read. And I love books. I mostly read fiction and YA books. I believe that every book has an important lesson to teach, even if it doesn’t seem like it. There are some books that my parents look at and wonder why I am reading it. It’s not only because the book looked interesting. What I think people don’t understand is that I’ve learned something from the books that I have read.
Take the Hunger Games for example. Whenever you think of this book, your mind probably goes to the classic quote, “May the odds be ever in your favor”. While I love that quote (and many others in the book), that isn’t necessarily what I think about. I think about bravery. Katniss had to be braver to fight against President Snow and the rest of the Capital. She was put through so much and was brave through it all.
Or the Divergent series. This is arguably one of my most favorite book series…ever. I loved these books. I may or may not have cried when I finished them. They will forever be one of my favorites. These books also taught me how to be brave, but in a different way. I’m not going to spoil anything for those of you who haven’t read it (go read it!!!). Tris was brave enough to see people she love die but still do what needed to be done. She pushed past the fear and what ifs to do what was right.
Now, the next book I want to talk about, a lot of you may not know about. It’s called Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. I highly recommend you read this book, especially if you like Viking styled books. This book taught me that sometimes your enemy doesn’t have to be your enemy. Everyone knows the famous phrase “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. This book is kind of like that. Its about putting differences aside to fight a stronger force.
Just one more. Okay so this isn’t as well known either. It’s called Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. This book is another one of my favorites. This book is about how the people are supported by the color of their blood. Those with red blood, and those with silver. Red Queen taught me that you don’t have to look, act or be a curtain way to be special. Just because you have red blood doesn’t mean you are less then those with silver. Everyone is special.
There are so many books I could talk about. But I want to hear about your favorite books and the lessons they have taught you. And if you can’t find a lesson, just look deeper. There’s always one there, hidden amongst the ink.
