For a while I’ve been posting snippets from my work in progress series the Prophecy Chronicles. I’ve posted the prologue for the first two books Destiny and Apolla. As of February 9th, I finished the first draft of the third book in the series, Ruby. To celebrate, I thought I would share with you guys the prologue to Ruby. Tell me what you think in the comments!

Prologue
Aldoria~The Fourth Realm

There was a soft knock on the door. Queen Damara looked up from the maps and charts laying on the table. With a grim expression, she called to who was knocking, telling them to enter. A young girl stepped into the room, followed closely by a young man.

“You called us, Queen Damara?” The girl asked.
Damara smiled. “Dear, how many times have I told you to stop calling me queen.”
The girl smiled a little and bowed her head.

“I have an important mission for the two of you,” Damara said looking between the man and the girl. “The invader is coming closer every hour. His forces are strong and capable. We will go to meet him, but I do not know what the outcome will be.”
“What are you saying, Damara?” The man asked stepping forward, concern filling his eyes.

“With me being gone, assassins have an opportunity.”
“You want us to stay with your children?” The girl asked, her brow forwarded.

Damara shook her head. “I will not see the same fate as Terbaik fall onto another,” She turned around and walked over to a cradle near the table. Nestled in the cradle were twin babies, a boy and a girl. “This world is no longer safe for them.” She looked at the infants fondly, a smile coming to her lips.

The two children stared back at her.

“What do you wish to do, Damara?”

A single tear rolled down her check as she watched the twins. “I must send them away. To protect them.”
Reaching into the cradle, she pulled the baby boy to her chest and walked over to the girl.

“For you, my dear Wren, I charge with Percy. Take him to the Desert Realm. Find Domnhar and Talis. They will hide you.”
The girl nodded, taking the child in her arms.
Damara looked at the baby boy’s soft, jade eyes and smiled. “My dear Percy. May the Great One grant kindness to your heart and wisdom to your soul. May he watch over you till the end of your days.”
The baby cooed and smiled.
“Goodbye, dear boy.” His mother planted a light kiss onto his forehead and looked up at Wren. “Go. May the Great One give you speed”

With that, Wren turned and left the room. Damara took the second child in her arms and walked over to the man.

His eyes were sad. “Damara?”

“Baske, to you I charge Isabella. Take her to the Third Realm and hide her there. Watch over her and protect her.”
The baby girl began to cry, squirming in her mother’s arms.

“Shhh, hush, dear child.” Damara said, looking down at the girls bright red eyes. She started to sing softly.

Remember dear child, remember it so
You are never alone, you are never alone
As strong as the highest mountain
As vast as the deepest valleys
Remember dear child, remember it so
You are never alone, you are never alone
As sure as the sun will rise
As sure as the moon will set
Remember dear child, remember it so
You are never alone, you are never alone
Remember dearest daughter
As long as you remember me, you will never be alone
You will never be alone
As sure as the sun will set
As sure as the moon will rise
My love for you is constant as the stars above
Remember dear child, remember it so
As long as you remember me, you will never be alone
You will never be alone

The baby yawned, her eyes closing. Damara handed the child to Baske. He looked at her, his eyes filled with grief.
“May the Great One guide your sword, my queen.”
Queen Damara smiled and kissed his cheek. Then she kissed her daughter’s pink cheek, careful not to wake her.

“May the Great One give you bravery, dear child. The heart of a dove and the soul of a lion,” Taking a step back, Damara swept away a tear and looked at Baske. “Go. May the Great One guide you.”
Taking one last look at his queen, Baske turned and left. The sound of hoofbeats outside soon followed. Damara wiped her tears away and turned back to the task at hand. They had to win this battle. To save her people. To save her children.
