I thought you guys would enjoy this short snippet I found when I was looking through some old writing. Let me know what you think in the comments!

A long time ago, the world was different then it is now. Nowadays, man rules the world, sitting at the top. There was a time when the earth ruled. When mankind was afraid of what the earth could do. They stayed in their villages, fearing the world outside their borders. They claimed that those who ventured forth, out of the village, were never seen again. Mankind claimed that the earth was a terrible, dangerous thing. These stories were called legends amongst my people and were passed down from generation to generation. Told by the light of the fire.

My people believe these legends are what make up our history. I have heard them all. They say the world outside our village is dangerous and cruel. It is hot, dry and the mountains are too steep for man to pass over it. It is rumored that there is an ocean beyond the mountains, if you make it that far.  The mountains are a wild thing. They cannot be tamed by man. No one can travel through their forest, or so the legends say. No one comes back.

How can these legends be true if no one has ever traveled past our boundaries? How can one be so sure that those who do go beyond our boundaries are dead? What proof do they have?

Something called to me. The mountains in the distance. Their forests. A voice inside my head, my sister’s voice, begged me to go. It pulls me towards them. I had to go. No one stopped me either. I’m going to face this wild land. Land that has never been tamed. I have no intention to tame it. Just to learn from it.

I don’t know what will happen to me. I don’t know what kinds of challenges I will come across. I don’t know anything this new, wild world has to offer me.

But I was willing to take the risk.
