Happy Sunday, y’all! Did you remember to set your clocks back an hour? These daylight savings are really hitting me hard. I’m so exhausted!

Anyway, I was scrolling through some of my old snippets, and I came across an old snippet series I was doing called Sun and Moon. I thought that this week I would post another snippet from that series. Here are the other two snippets for you to get caught up: Sun and Moon~Snippet and Sun and Moon~Snippet #2.

This weeks snippet is in the point of view of Cyrus. I hope you enjoy! Also, please let me know if you want to read more from this series!

She’s been avoiding me. I haven’t talked to her in three days. She doesn’t sit at her table anymore, and she doesn’t look at me when I see her in the halls. I wondered why. Was it something I said?

Today was unusually dark, which made me sad. I enjoyed sunny days. I guess that’s why I was always wanting to be outside. The sunshine made me happy. But today, clouds covered the sky. I didn’t hear anything about rain in the weather reports but then again it was mid-March in Illinois. Weather is unpredictable here.

After school, I was sitting outside waiting for my mom to pick me up—she was late, like usual—and spotted Ayla walking by. I ran to catch up with her.

“Hey, Ayla!” I called as I approached.

She turned at the sound of her name and met my eyes. She waved.

“I haven’t seen you around much.” I said walking with her.

She signed something with her hands. I stared at her completely dumbfounded. “Uh, I can’t do the whole sign language thing.”

She nodded and took a notebook from her bag. I’ve been busy. She wrote.

I felt relieved. “Oh. I thought you were avoiding me.”

A slight blush rose to her cheeks, and she looked away. I haven’t. Just been busy. She wrote.

I nodded, looking around at the darkness that was still growing. What was up with that?

“Can I walk you home?”

Her eyebrows raised. Doesn’t your mom usually pick you up?

I smiled. “She’s late again. I can text her and tell her I’m walking home. If you want me to walk with you?”

She smiled and shrugged. Then nodded.

I took out my phone and quickly texted my mom.

Alright. I’ll see you at home then. Was her response.

I put my phone back in my pocket. I walked beside Ayla down the street towards wherever she lived. I looked at her through the corner of my eye and saw her watching the dark clouds. She looked worried. And almost… afriad.

“You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

I’m just tired. She wrote in the notebook.

I didn’t believe her, but I said nothing about it. I just kept walking. We turned the next corner, and Ayla stopped dead in her tracks.

“What?” I looked at the street and saw nothing but darkness. The lightbulbs in the street lamps were flickering. It looked extremely dark for the afternoon.

Ayla took a step back. We shouldn’t go this way. She wrote quickly.

I nodded and turned to follow her back up the street. A growl stopped us dead in our tracks. Ayla stuck out her hand to stop me, the notebook falling to the ground. She quickly picked it up and stuffed it in her bag. She motioned for me to follow her. She ran down the dark street. I struggled to keep up with her. The growing darkness hindered me from seeing obstacles in the street. I couldn’t see anything. I stumbled and fell. I rolled onto my back, feeling something wet on my hand. I knew I was bleeding.

That’s when I heard the growling. Looking around, I spotted dark, red eyes glowing in the darkness in front of me. I stumbled backwards, trying to get away from whatever it was. I ran into a lamp poll.

The thing stepped into the flickering light, and I got a better look at it. It snarled, showing its long fangs. Its sharp claws ran across the concrete. I pressed against the poll, stunned in fear. I didn’t know what this thing was, but it looked almost like a wolf.

It stepped closer to me, sniffing. I was too stunned to move. It got closer, its jaws opening, ready to strike.

Suddenly, Ayla was there. She ran up from the side and pushed the demon to the side. She held a dagger in her hand. The blade met the wolf’s flesh, and it fell to the ground. Ayla walked over to me and helped me up. Keeping a firm grip on my hand, she ran down the street.

“Ayla, what’s going on?” I asked as we ran.

She gave me no response, she only pushed herself faster. I struggled to keep up, running into the small cracks in the concrete. I didn’t know Ayla was running in the darkness with such ease.

Suddenly, she came to a halt. I stopped next to her, struggling to catch my breath.

“What’s going on?” I asked again.

She had no time to answer. A short, evil sounding chuckle came from the darkness ahead. It caused a chill to run down my spine.

“Ayla?”

She squeezed my hand and looked at me. “Whatever you do, don’t look her in the eyes.” She said before turning back to the darkness.

“Don’t look who’s in the eyes?” It took me a few moments to realize what just happened. My mouth flew open. “Hold on. Did you just talk?!”

She didn’t have time to say anything else. The evil laugh came again and the darkness seemed to lift a little. Only enough for me to see my surroundings.

That’s when I saw her.
