Good evening everyone! Last week I took a little social media break since I was traveling for the weekend. This week I decided to review a book that I just recently finished and absolutely adored!
The book I am reviewing is called What Lies Above and it is by Caitlin Lambert. What Lies Above is Caitlin’s debut novel and it was published in May of 2021. Caitlin’s writing journey is one that is truly inspiring, especially to young writers like myself. I suggest you go check it out on her website, which you can find here.
What Lies Above follows two teenagers as they journey to uncover the secrets of their world.
Eva lives in an underground city, where any talk of the world above is silenced. She feels safe in her world, but one day when she discovers one of the many secrets being kept from her, she is determined to find the truth.
Eli’s world is plagued with war. When his mother is taken from him, Eli swears to avenge her. Even if that means joining the very people who took her. As Eli gets deeper and deeper into the ranks of the Regime, he starts to uncover what really happened.
Eli and Eva live in two different worlds. But maybe, their worlds are not what they seem to be. What will they find if they dig deeper into the secrets buried within their pasts? What will be the cost of their freedom?
What Lies Above has become one of my new favorite novels. The story was not like any I have read before, and that only made it more intriguing. I could NOT put it down! There were so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. It kept me on the edge of my seat!
Caitlin did such an amazing job writing this novel. The characters were so fascinating, and the world building made it feel like I was actually there, walking alongside the characters on their journey. I truly felt for these characters. I felt their joy, their pain, their confusion, their anger. Every emotion. Every detail was written so beautifully that I felt a part of the story. It was incredible.
What Lies Above is a truly amazing book, and I strongly recommend adding it to your to be read lists! I don’t think I can wait for the sequel.
