This is something I wrote a couple of weeks ago when I went to the beach for the first time in my life! I thought I would share it:

I stood ankle deep on the water. The sand tickled my toes. Water splashed my legs as waves rolled by. In front of me was the lake, an open void of darkness. The night sky a black canvas about it. Nothing to see, nothing to hear but the crashing waves. Behind me stood the city. The skyscrapers rose up, reaching for the sky. The lights created stars against a black canvas. A breeze rolled by, blowing strands of hair out of my braid. The water was cold against my feet. The sand felt odd under my toes. I closed my eyes and let the breeze wash over me. The hustle and bustle of the city was blown away by the sound of the crashing waves. I could hear nothing but the water beneath me. The city behind me made the beach shine against the black canvas before me. A wave hit my legs. A breeze washed over me. I smiled.

Love the imagery! I can clearly picture the calm that rushed over you, cancelling out the stress of the city.
