Prologue
Aldoria~The Fourth Realm~The World of Magic
The Teller pulled his wife closer to him as the sleigh they rode in came to a stop. Bodaway, the self-proclaimed king of the Northern Region, would soon find out where he was. The Teller had to get his wife and only child through the Portal and into the Third Realm before Bodaway got to them. The Teller helped his wife down from the sleigh. She cradled their beautiful daughter in her arms. The Teller knew his power had faded and was now resting inside the child before him. Bodaway wanted that power, to see through time. To see what the future held. Bodaway wanted to use that power to change his future. But a Teller was not allowed to aid in changing the future. That was not why they were here.
He took his six month old daughter into his arms and kissed her soft cheek.
“Be brave. Stand strong.” He whispered to the child.
She smiled up at him. The Teller handed the child back to his wife and took a necklace out of his pocket. It was a small blue bird hanging from a silver chain. The Teller put the necklace around the baby’s neck. “This will give you a connection to this world, my child.” The Teller looked at his wife. “Do not worry, the Council will send a guardian soon.” He wrapped his arms around his wife and the child.
“I will miss you, Moto. Be safe.” The woman whispered in his ear.
“You be safe, Aina, my dove. We will be together again.” The Teller whispered back and smiled.
The sound of shouts floated through the wind.
“It is time.”
With that the Teller uttered the word that opened the Portal, the only way in or out of Aldoria. A blue whirlpool began to form in the arch made of ancient elm trees. Aina, taking the child in her hands, walked through the Portal and disappeared into the spaces between the Nine Realms.
“Be safe.” The Teller whispered into the wind as the Portal closed.
That was the last he’d ever see of his wife or daughter.
She will be safe. Nzuri will keep her safe. The Teller told himself as he turned to face his fate. His daughter was beyond evil’s grasp, for now.
Her eighteenth birthday would come in time, and she would return to Aldoria to save it from the Bodaway’s clutches.
She will be safe.
She would learn to control the very strips of time as the Teller himself had once done. She would control her own destiny.
That was why he had given her the name she has.
Destiny.
