So, I’ve debated writing a post about this for a while but never really gave it a chance. Now that my public school is cancelled due to COVID-19, I thought it would be fitting.
So, my school has decided to do several days of e-learning which is basically just online learning. My teachers have given me assignments, and I must complete them at home. It’s made me think about homeschooling again. I used to be homeschooled until I started as a part time public schooler freshman year. Now, as a sophomore, I am a full time public school student. I thought it would be interesting to show you guys the differences between homeschooling and public schooling, at least through my eyes. So, here you go.
Homeschooling:
First of all, I want to correct a rumor that a lot of people think about homeschoolers. No, I did not stay in my pajamas all day. In fact, I had to be up and ready for my day by eight o’clock just like any other public schooler. I wasn’t allowed to stay in my pajamas.
Now, here’s what a typical homeschool day went for me.
I got up and got ready.
Then me and my brother, who was homeschooled with me, sat at the table and my mom taught us the lessons for the day. She usually spent about 45 minutes on each subject, making sure we understood it.
Around noon, we would have lunch and then work on homework until we were finished with it.
Our mom sometimes made us read a little which I never really minded. You all know I really love books.
Sometimes, when my mom wasn’t home, she would leave us a list of things to do. It was usually an easy day, depending on how hard you worked.
Public School:
Public school is a little different. I had to get up earlier, and be ready at a curtain time. When we got to school I had to go straight to my first class. Then to the next and the next and so on. I couldn’t be done at noon, and I didn’t have much time to do my homework in between. When I got home, I usually took like a five or ten minute break (Me time!) before doing homework.
Now, I’m not saying that is how every homeschooler or public school went about their day, but its how my day usually went. In my opinion, I think homeschooling was easier and a little more enjoyable. But I’ve made a ton of friends in public school. Public school is not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Let me know in the comments which one you think would be better. Homeschooling or public school?
